Enterprise House in Tonbridge, Kent, provides 44 homes, including a self-contained women’s refuge.
Located on the edge of Tonbridge town centre and near the river Medway, the scheme is arranged as four separate buildings with amenity space and off-street parking to the rear. Dwellings have been designed to enjoy views over the river and town centre.
One of the buildings was specifically designed for and operates as a women’s refuge, providing support and temporary respite accommodation for women in need.
A brownfield site in a flood risk area meant that our design had to be resilient, mitigating flood risk with on-site flood storage voids & avoiding overheating with shading and cross ventilation.
The project engages its surroundings by replacing hard boundary walls from an office that previously occupied the site with attractive landscaping, while new residential frontages enhance the residential street scene.
‘Enterprise House has proved a successful project for us, the high quality shared ownership apartments & the women’s’ refuge works well to meet a real need in the local area. KCA have designed a great looking scheme whilst at the same time taking the many challenges that the site threw up in their stride.’ Liz Martin – Regional Director Development Clarion Housing Group.
